Bachelor of Science and Post-Bachelor's Certificate in Health Information Management (HIM)

Regis University

SCHOOL PROFILE |  DEGREES OFFERED

Description

Health information management, formerly medical record administration, is one of the fastest growing occupations in health care today. The profession began in the early 1900s as a way to create medical records that enhanced the quality of medical care.

Today, an electronic medical record is in place, and credentialed HIM professionals are in great demand. The HIM program at Regis offers a Bachelor of Science or a Post-Bachelor's Certificate option for individuals with a prior baccalaureate degree. Both prepare the student to sit for the national Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) examination. Upon successful completion of the examination, graduates may use the professional RHIA credential, which is transferable internationally.

The program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) and approved by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

The HIM program is offered online or in an accelerated, every-other-weekend format in Denver and begins in the fall and spring.
