Black and White Picture of College Classroom - 1940s - The Servicemen's Readjustment Act of 1944, or as it is more commonly known the G.I. Bill, was enacted to provide veterans with a number of benefits - specifically cash payments of tuition and living expenses to attend college, high school or vocational education. This act spurred one of the largest increases in higher education enrollment for both men and women - a trend that has continued. This is an excellent image of a college classroom post G.I. Bill - packed with students. The G.I. Bill forever change the face of higher education in the U.S.
