View All Reviews Write a ReviewMy experience with Walden up to time I began working on my doctoral dissertation was excellent. Shortly after I began to work on my doctoral study I began to lose momentum and was unable to focus on my topic. I was working full time and had pressures at work but was able to do the minimum work. I am not working this year and things haven't changed. My chair has a laissez faire attitude -- it is all on my shoulders. I spoke to someone who recently completed their EdD at a state university and they told me that doctoral students have "coaches" who have gone through the same experience and help them through the process to completion... I am one semester away from finishing. The coursework is difficult, challenging, relevant, and kept up to date. This is a program only for people who are interested in obtaining a degree similar to that obtained in a brick and mortar school. The workload of this online program is NOT less than a traditional school, so if you can't or won't be able to dedicate that - do not enter this program. The expectations of the professors and administrators are similar to that in a traditional program and the quality of work of students who are able to successfully complete the program is also at that level... My experience is with the Ed. D. program, the academics and research were rigorous. I believe I learned a lot from this program. However, they drastically underestimate the time and expense this program will need for completion. From my experience it has been almost double the time and cost. Their benchmarks that they say should take two weeks may take an entire semester or more. As several other individuals have stated it sure seems as though they are more about generating revenue than helping you complete the program... Read Full Review
I completed my MA in Educational Leadership. The content was superb! But when I went to get my principal's license I had to take two extra courses. Now I am working on my supervisor's license and need to take four courses. I recently visited Walden's website and noted that they now advertise that my degree is a non-licensure degree. I wish they would have been up front about that when I attended a few years ago. Read Full Review
I have the highest regards for the instructors and staff at Walden University. Having never been in the education field before, and majoring in Higher Education with a concentration in Online and Distant Learning; I am amazed at the level of knowledge I now have in the field, with one more course to complete and then my Capstone. I have recieved, with the exception of one B, all A's; an unbelievable achievement, considering I had not been in college since I recieved my BA in 1980... Read Full Review
I choose Walden for my MPA because the cirriculum was challenging. The schools main goal seeks to mold students to be agents of social change and I now feel that I have the education to make a difference and be an agent of social change. I am currently thinking of pursing a PhD in public administration to serve my community and make it one that is sustainable for future generations. Walden is not for the faint of heart and students must work long and hard to achieve a degree but its so worth it because the instructors and students are from varied backgrounds and experiences and really do add to the discussion posting requirements... My experience at Walden has been terrific. Earning a Masters Degree in Education at Walden is not for the weak-hearted. I have worked my tail off for the past 2 1/2 years, but it has been worth every minute. This program is research, writing, and project-based. Resources are current and updated continually. Instructors are experienced and well-trained in the field. Not once did I have to read something and then spit back what I'd memorized in the form of an online quiz or test. I learned a tremendous amount because of it, and my students are reaping the benefits... Read Full Review
I am currently writing chapter 4 of my dissertation but started taking classes at Walden in 2007. I have had to work very hard to get where I am but have learned a lot in the process. I feel when I graduate I will be ready for the workplace. Prior to starting my dissertation I took my classes and the experience was alright. Some classes just as with regular brick and mortar universities were harder than others or had more demanding professors. I would really recheck academic advising advice for accuracy, but all other departments (writing center, research center, library, IRB) I have dealt with have been professional and helpful... My experience at Walden University has been wonderfully positive! I received my MS in Psychology from Walden last year and I am so proud of myself! Walden is not for everyone because their courses are quite comprehensive and not easy. The instructors are very supportive and they know "their stuff"! Read Full Review
I have gone to traditional universities and colleges. I received an AA and BS at two colleges my masters online somewhere else and my PhD at Walden and by far Walden is rigorous but worth it. The Professors are smart and definitely do not "slide" you by. You want the degree you have to earn it first! Read Full Review
I just completed the MS Special Education. I am working on proceeding to a doctoral. Walden has exceeded the publicized expectation for online/distance education. I did a bit of research before going in which was mainly negative. For my busy school schedule, an online university like Walden is just about a university experience most welcome for our times. The courses are so practical... Read Full Review
All of my instructors, but one were excellent. Anyone wanting an education that can help them get ahead should look to Walden University they are the best of the best. Read Full Review
I transferred to Walden University about halfway through my PhD program from a traditional brick-and-mortar university. It's easy to physically sit in a classroom, listen to a lecture, and minimally participate. But you can't do that at Walden -- you HAVE to participate, both in answering questions posed by the professor and in responding to comments made by other students. You can't get away with doing the minimum, which is what makes this program much more rigorous than a brick-and-mortar program. The one drawback is that you're basically on your own as you write your dissertation. You HAVE to be self-motivated... Read Full Review
In this college you earn your degree, it is not free or easy!! Well it is for profit university, but the doctoral learning process is tough and challenging, you have to be ready for intense study. This is a perfect institutions with lots of flexibility. Good luck!...Cos Read Full Review
Completing my AA, BA, and MPA at traditional brick and mortar schools it was a leap of faith for me to enroll at Walden. I am now four classes shy of beginning my dissertation and I can say without hesitation I am please with the decision I made to enroll. The workload is not easy. If someone is expecting a degree to be handed to them I would suggest you get on another bus. The work is rigorous, the faculty amazing, and my fellow scholar-practitioners are not just colleagues, but friends. Yes, even in an online environment these relationships blossom. Wait until you attend the residencies... Read Full Review
I am one class away from gradutaing my MS in Health Informatics but they gave me an "F" grade because the school did not care about my family and medical issues that was going on with me at the time. I explained to my instructor that I am having medical issues and emotional issues as a result of my dad and cousins missing from the Japan's tidalwave. I told her my situation is affecting my ability to turn in my homework on time and that if she could give me an extensions to my homework. She didnt care. Everytime I turned in homework late, she double penalized my grade for lateness from instructor's grade and turnitin's grade... Read Full Review
Everyone Listen Up!...Since beginning my studies at Walden University, I have extremely pleased. For those of you who state that the coursework is difficult, REALLY, what do you expect in graduate studies?? I highly recommend Walden University over all other online universities. The professors I have experienced thus far have been supportive, understanding, and generous in the amount of feedback they give. They have gone above and beyond to help my fellow colleagues and myself get the most out of the literature and materials. I am currently a 4.0 and have been since I started! It has been arduous, but well worth it... Read Full Review
I would have to say that my over all experience at Walden was excellent. The work was difficult, but my professors and support staff was there the entire time. I live in South Korea and I was worried about getting my materials on time. I am happy to say and I got all my books, and study material well ahead of my start dates. I am planning now to start a Ed.D program this fall!! Read Full Review
I currently enrolled with Walden University in 2007. My academic experience with Walden has been nothing but great. The advisers are wonderful. The faculty and staff are awesome. I have a 3.5 as I stand right now. I will be completing my undergrad program within two weeks. I am very excited. I definitely thinking about pursuing a Master's program with Walden. I am in my last class which is the capstone class. The work has been rigorous but I learned a great deal in my program. This program has definitely prepared me for a career. Read Full Review
This is NOT a diploma mill. If you can't do research and write, don't go into any of the psychology tracks. It is tough and very credible. To earn a Ph.D. from Walden says a lot.... Read Full Review
Do NOT enroll in this University if you are offered admissions. I repeat: DO NOT enroll at Walden if you get accepted. The work is difficult, ponderous and fast-paced. They don’t care if you work full-time, have children or other obligations. Simply stated, Walden University is a “real” institution with academic standards, not a degree mill. So if you‘re reading this review with the hope of easily earning a PhD, EdD or whatever other dream that’s rattling around your empty skull, keep it moving because this is not the shortcut you’re looking for... Walden is a great University as long as you realize it is what you put in it. I finished my PhD in 3 1/2 years (6 months longer than expected) and got exactly what I wanted out of the program. I already have 2 Master's degree's and work as a full-time counselor. For me personally, I wanted the PhD for publishing and more private practice and university teaching. I would not go for credentials or MBA stuff... Read Full Review
I am currently in the Ph.D program in educational psychology. I am a school psychologist who is pursuing another degree because I would like ot teach at the university level part-time during the summers and school year. I have attended regular universities and graduated with my Master's from Ohio State a few years ago. Walden University is not easy! I have found online classes to be harder than traditional courses and require more time to complete assignments. The biggest advantage I have seen is the weekly discussions....in a regular classroom you have the option of just listening to the teacher with minimal input... Read Full Review
I have been attending Walden since March of 2010 and I am 2/3 through the course work for my Ph.D. So far all of these courses have challenged my intellect and pushed me to succeed. For those who think Walden is a joke, diploma mill, or easy you are sorely mistaken. I completed a B.S. and M.S. through traditional brick and mortar schools and I have never been so challenged as I am at Walden. The residencies that doctoral students have to attend are great and ALL of the professors I have encountered both in class and at residencies have been great. Read Full Review
I am enrolled in the B.S. Communications program. I am very satisfied with my experience. I have earned a 4.0 and I feel that my courses were challenging. My instructors provided substantial feedback and clearly defined their expectations of students. Overall, I feel that I learned a great deal and am looking forward to finishing by sept 2012. The course work for the Ed.D. was great; very challenging and most of the professors were knowledgeable and provided honest feedback. The disseertation experience has been horrendous! My committee is uninformed and uncaring. I am basically working on it alone. My methodologist completely steered me in the wrong direction and my chair provides no support. Also there is no one for me to speak to about my concerns. And, academic advising is a joke! I am going to finish because I have spent so much money, please think before investing in this school. If there was any way I could transfer these credits to another school, I would do so in a second! Read Full Review
I have just passed the 1/2 way point to completing my MS in psychology, and I am very happy with my experience. I have been in my program now for 1.5 years - and am taking my program one class at at a time versus the recommended 2. Frankly I don't know how a working professional could manage 2, because each class is very demanding. The degree of required rigor, however, is not out of the ball park for an advanced degree, in my opinion. I have found my coursework to be current and often immediately applicable to my work... Walden University should not be shrugged off as easy, or be considered a diploma mill. All courses in the Richard W. Riley College of Education Leadership were tough but I have benefited professionally. Walden's research in education was cited at two professional development sessions I attended this past summer. The texts and materials they provide are written by leaders in the field of education. It is a shame that online education isn't taken seriously at all institutions... Read Full Review
I would like to say to those looking to attend Walden University. It's basically 90 percent how you make it and 10 percent how you take it. Walden is not a joke or for people who are not committed to education or change. I'm a sophomore currently at Walden, but I must say my first year was a challenge it was not a breeze. I became a great writer with Walden's hard work and dedication. The course work is very vigorous and need to be completed in a timely manner, but I can say the staff will work with you as long as you are trying and working toward your goals. Read Full Review
So, as a student at Walden University, I loved the flexibility that the programs provide as well as the level of education in which I received from the University. All of my instructors were very helpful and courteous, and most importantly, human. They, just as I, endured problems and understood that at times, I had issues as well!! They were always willing to work with me and there was never a time where I went with my questions unanswered. As an employee of the school, in advising, I must say that I, and everyone of my colleagues, enjoy what we do, which is helping other people see their potential, through education... Read Full Review
I will be finished with my Masters in Education (Elementary Reading and Literacy) in December 2010. The program is very flexible and allows us to make our own schedules. There are a lot of papers to write; most are between 2-3 pages. I write about a paper a week, which gets quite redundant. The material is somewhat interesting and the instructors are very helpful if you ever need assistance. There are never any tests or exams, which is a plus for me. The convenience of an online program is wonderful. You can take vacations whenever and complete the assignments ahead of time or bring your laptop... Read Full Review
I just finished my PhD in Education on May 31, 2010. It is a lot of work but I am excited to have finished. I worked hard at completing the work and feel that I did received a great education. The amount of writing is high and they do love APA. I would advise an editor or someone who knows it very well. It did take an extra year to complete my dissertation once I got the research completed but that was because I had to have emergency gall bladder surgery and then a left behind stone removed the next term so that wasn't their fault. So I did finish 2 semesters later than I planned... Read Full Review
I am very unhappy with the current professor I have for the program, but I feel I have no recourse because it will affect my grade. My professor has not returned emails, told me I needed to call the university materials dept. because her reading assignments don't match the edition of the book we have, she in week 4 is suddenly requiring us to use APA in a discussion assignment , but it is not listed in the rubrics for the class and has not been required in the prior weeks. She personally criticized me in a response to my discussion,...the list goes on. Very unhappy!!! Read Full Review
