University of Phoenix - Proud to be a UOP student

In my opinion University of Phoenix is a wonderful online school. I love it. My financial and enrollment advisors are both amazing and extremely helpful, as well as my instructors. I am in my fourth block of classes and my advisor still checks on me at least every other week. I have always felt that everyone involved really wants their students to have success. I am very happy I chose this school. I am a single mom to a four year old and also work full time. Although the program is intense and a lot of work, I have learned so much. As long as you are diligent and work hard, you will succeed... Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - I am enjoying my experience

I am currently taking the online courses through UOP and I am very satisfied with the course material and the instructors. I have not had a problem with them responding to my emails or phone calls if I encounter a problem, and have been very understanding. You must complete your work, read the material, pay attention, and ask questions but this is to be expected. The only problem I have had has been with the slow financial aid office but I stay on top of all my loans, what I owe, and what they owe me so I know at all times what is going on. To complete these classes you must be ready to work hard and be self motivated... Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - Not for the time challanged

I am in the final two classes of my Associates degree. With no possible allowance in my schedule for continuing with a traditional classroom education I returned to school online to complete my degree. Over a 25 year period I have attended 3 community colleges for various certifications and credited courses. The work load at U of P is significantly harder than it was in a classroom setting because of the abbreviated class length and required assignment load. The facilitators were very assorted in experience but all well educated. The student portal issues listed on other reviews appear to be fixed for the most part... Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - uop

University of Phoenix is ok I guess. The only real problems that I have with it is the fact that advisors are constantly changing and I have to wait twenty years for my refund. Other than that, i believe it is decent. It is EXPENSIVE!!!!!!!! Oh and I hate the learning teams but sometimes they are beneficial. I guess it just depends on the individual. Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - Good school

I have read all the bad things about this college. However, my experience at this school has been good. The advisors have kept me informed throughout my time there. I am getting ready to start my Bachelors degree there, although, I am concerned about the learning teams, but I am sure it will be ok. If you are not prepared to work hard, then this not the school for you. University of Phoenix has a tough schedule to keep. At least 2 work assignments a week, along with 2 discussion questions, and 2 more participation posts 4 days a week. (per class)... Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - Rigorous Curricula; Classes are too short

I recently finished my degree and I can honestly say that I worked hard for it. I'm now enrolled for my Master's at Florida Institute of Technology. I took my first year of classes with UoP on campus and the final 2 1/2 online. Most of my teachers were tough, and they made us work hard for a good grade. Their feedback on papers were harsh in some cases, but very constructive. At least they gave feedback. One thing I could say on the negative side is that classes were only five weeks long each. I don't think five weeks is enough to learn the material I had to take, or any college courses for that matter... Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - Comprehensive, Relevant and Quality Education

I was an International student and enrolled in 2002. After 4 years of very hard work, I finally graduated in 2006. I chose UoP because I was looking to earn an American degree from overseas without having to leave my country or interrupt my full-time career. I had always been a good and serious student and I thought studying with UoP would certainly be a piece of cake. To my surprise, I found that the curriculum was very rigorous and so relevant to my career. While studying, I was having a full-time job and I started logging into my class 5 am in the morning and work till 8am before going off to work... Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - Good Learning Experience!!!

I have two B.S. degree's from State Universities and decided I wanted to try the online programs for a Master's degree. I was very pleased with the format of each course. Basically, if you are not disciplined you will fail. I received a 3.9 GPA and worked my butt off, but it was well worth it. My company paid for the degree, so it all worked out. Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - UOP axia college Psy

I started going to Axia in late 2008 and I'm taking psychology. My experience with this school has been fantastic. I would be graduating this year, but I had to sit out for 6 months cause of bad grades I received. Other then that situation the work is challenging so if you procrastinate, then this school is not for you. I can honestly say that I learned a lot from this school and I will be proud of the degree that receive from U.O.P. Some of the complaints about money issues might be true but the educate complaints from my experience is not true. I also attend Ashworth Univ. and I can tell you that Axia is way better... University of Phoenix - Work hard and you'll do fine

I've been attending UoP since July 2009. A little over a year later, I am halfway through my program in information systems security. I have to say right upfront that some of the complaints in the other posts are valid, although I agree with the people who say that you get back as much as you put in. My experience at the school has fortunately been overwhelmingly positive. I've had few issues with my learning teams and most of my instructors have been both knowledgeable and engaged with their students. I also managed to keep the same academic and financial advisors for at least a year (both of them were great)... Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - How bad can it be?

I am in my 5th out of 12 classes in the program. I took one class in the classroom and the rest online. Pros: You can start immediately for online and classroom is not much of a wait either. The online library has an extensive collection of journals, but no books (con). You can switch from online to classroom easily. Classroom is once a week and four hours in length. Class is 6 weeks long. Cons: Online is close to 400 dollars more than campus per class, and there is nothing additional provided by the school. Actually their costs are less with you online, since there is no building cost. You will teach everything to yourself... Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - Wish I haven't wasted so much time and moeny

I have 5 more classes to finish with UoP for my AA in Accounting. I am beyond displeased and contemplating other options. So far the work has been ridiculously easy and I have not learned a thing. They have not offered me the option to test out of any course. In addition, their required courses are a joke. I am in a Peachtree accounting class (which is basically data entry into Peachtree) with an instructor who doesn't know the difference between "there, their and they're." I am a train accounting software for a company who develops it, I clearly understand they way it is supposed to work. The response is this is a required course... Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - I have been attending for over two years

I have been attending UOP on an off since 2007...I changed my degree program from MAED (Masters in elementary ed) to BSIT software engineering. Honest to goodness, I have had very good interactions and support from most of my advisors until I switched to the BSIT program and got a different financial advisor. This current financial advisor of mine, failed to contact me an inform me early about the fact that I will have over 3,000 dollars of out of pocket costs. However, my previous advisor was great, called me just about every week. It does depend from person to person. However, I have resolved my issues with this current advisor... Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - Not sure if UOP is for me

I'm starting my 5th class. I'm very frustrated overall. I've never been to college and at 38 decided to go. My first class was great, loved the material, the teacher was excellent, I was excited about getting an education. But the last 3 classes have been nothing but frustration. One of the selling points is that their teachers are working professionals. My real world translation would be that they are people who work all day and are too tired or uninterested to teach effectively. I went to campus classes because it was cheaper and supposedly it would take less time during the week... Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - Glad I graduated, but won't pursue my Master's with UoP

I am happy to say I received my BBS in Accounting, but I must admit that the other complaints on this site are legitimate. When I originally signed on to complete my Associate's and Bachelor's from UoP, I had full intentions of pursuing my Master's with them as well. I have now enrolled with Keller Graduate School instead, due to two serious issues with UoP. 1) The Administrative staff at UoP teeters between knowing the basics and being completely incompetent. My financial and academic advisors were changed many times, with different answers being given depending on the person... Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - The Best!

I completed my degree in less than four years. The program fit my schedule, I combined Online instruction with on-ground courses and found the curriculum and instructors (with few exceptions) to be among the best. The program has placed me on the leading edge when it comes to my profession. As an elementary educator, I find that UoP provided me with the tools and knowledge to be highly competitive in my field. I have taken a few courses at my local state university and can honestly say that UoP prepared me better than I expected to be competitive as a student as well... Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - You get what you put out

I completed my degree in with UoP in April of 2009. As I read over the different comments from others who have attended I noticed a common thread, of those who complained and said the school was bad, most did not complete. Yes, there were things I didn't like about UoP. I never spoke with a financial adviser once during my entire degree. It was ok though, because I took responsibility to follow up with that stuff on my own, never had a problem, and graduated with a zero balance. My first student advisor was great but she left. Her replacement was awful, so what... Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - student portal

The student website is a joke. Whoever created it, obviously never has to use it. If you are in the library, and need to go back to the classroom or to the discussion page, you have to sign out and sign back in. No doorway throughout the entire site. If you need to go to your e-mail account, you again have to log out and log back in no access to anywhere from your e-mail account. The library is also a joke, you rarely get articles about the subject you are researching. Once you find an abstract that resembles what you want, you find that your university of phoenix sign in will not get you access to the article... Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - Learning teams from H*ll

There are two things that the University needs to fix and fast. First is the student portal. The library could use some updating. When you access a data base, and type in the subject you want, you're more likely to get Aunt Bea's Apple pie recipe than you are articles on the subject you are researching. The next horror are the so called "learning" teams. If you have read other reviews about one or two people on a team carrying a paper, then you have heard accurately. Complaints about this go unanswered... Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - Great Experience at Phoenix Online

I am currently a BS Psychology student at Phoenix online, and I enjoy every moment of the learning experience. I am a 40 hour work week employee as well as a Minister with children, there was no way that I could have attended a B&M school. Yes you have a lot of papers to write, but this is college, and I write sermons all the time. As for the team approach, I find it to be a great experience collectively learning and researching theories and such with others.

I happen to have had persons on my team who put in 100 percent, which from what I have read from other reviews, is unheard of, but not my personal experience at UOP... Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - Is it worth the price of admission

I have been with the U o P for about a year now. I am trying to decide if this school is the right fit for me,this is why I have found this page. I will start with the overall education I received has been better than what I could have expected. The online environment is decent, but does not take full use of the technology that is available. There is no video lectures and I would like to see them implement podcasts into the curriculum. My biggest problem I am seeing is I am not sure of the quality of the students that get admitted to this school. It seems that within every class I find someone that should be in remedial English... University of Phoenix - UoP review

I had a horrible experience at UoP. The instructors and counselors could care less about students. We are all just numbers and a payment. I got all A's except one B. The reason I got the B was because I refused to do the homework for other students in one class. UoP is set up to where each student has to write a weekly paper plus a portion of a group paper. The problem is most groups don't do any work. Most people in the group do nothing, knowing the one person in the group who wants a good grade will do the assignment for the group. It should be based on individual effort, but everybody in the group gets the same grade... Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - University of Phoenix --

I enrolled in UOP in Sept 2005 and graduated 2007. The program was rigorous. I received a C in Transformational Leadership and was placed on academic probation with the FAFSA and the University. Every course I took the papers were graded and sometimes the feedback was harsh. I never received an easy A. I had to work really hard to get the 5 A's I did get. You are not going to be able to satisfy everyone and people do have legitimate complaints but if you know you earned your degree, MBA, or Doctoral no one can take that away from you. Every one has a different experience and my experience with the institution was good. Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - Good UOP Experiences

I attended UOP for a BSIT and MIS degree. Some of the complaints are just not valid. The school explains their policy clearly on missing classes or assignments.

They make it clear what is expected and why they are so strict. This is not an environment for slakers. You have the ability to take time off for something like 45 days. Virtually every instructor was great and knowledgable about their field. A few were better than others. I will admit that UOP is better for people with experience in their field rather than starting from scratch... Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - UoP's doctoral program

I got my other degrees from University of Maryland so I can only comment on UoP's doctoral program---it was great!!!! The rigor of the program was tough and the quality of the program was very impressive. I would certainly recommend this program to anyone. University of Phoenix - people

I found the classes to be ok, but when it came to academic counselors there really not much help. I fell ill for a week and fell behind in class but was able to successfully complete on class but the other I was late probably by 8 hrs and they did not except it. I loved the class and was averaging a 98%, but because they didn't except it, which by the way the teacher graded it and I got a 90%. So, the end of the story is I got a D+ in the class. University of Phoenix - Save your money - cross Phoenix off your list!

I got my Associates Degree from Axia College at University of Phoenix, then went on to do part of my Bachelor's degree. The reason I chose U of P is because I already had healthcare administration upper division credits from Southern Illinois University, and was told by the enrollment person that I would receive credit for them. They won't tell you how many of your previously earned credits will apply to your program until after you are enrolled. They accepted ONE credit hour. Ridiculous, as the course descriptions were almost identical, and I had actually received an EDUCATION at SIU. Thousands of dollars down the drain... Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - You reap what you sow

I am about half-way through my graduate program and have had a pretty good experience thus far. Classes are a bit pricey, but then again what graduate school isn't. I haven't had any problems that you see some of the other students posting. If you can balance a check book you can track your financial aid and I've had the same counselors since enrolling in grad school. My enrollment counselor was a real driver and had me into the program within 3 weeks. This school is definitely not for the week of heart. My recommendation is that the weenies stick to the lighter loads provided at a traditional school. Read Full Review

University of Phoenix - Pretty good value for the money

UOP offered an excellent value for the money/time. This school was much harder than I thought, but I was able to finish a little bit sooner than planned. There was a lot of emphasis on working with the instructors and other students which I think added to the experience I had. I believe I probably learned more than if I had to do it on my own at a offline campus school. I think if you plan to go to school online you need to have a big desire to finish the full program. Its completely worth it, but finishing makes the experience 10x better. Read Full Review
