View All Reviews Write a ReviewI am currently attending Kaplan and love it. I have had NO issues with the business office or financial aide. I have a 4.0 GPA and know exactly who to call if I need help with anything. I had no knowledge of how to navigate going back to school and they told me EVERYTHING I needed to know and have always been kind to me. Read Full Review
Great education, great instructors. Their financial aid department is terrible. Most of them are incompetent and/or don't care when they mess up. As long as you don't have any financial aid issues, you are good. Once you have one ... good luck! Read Full Review
I have just completed my first year of Kaplan's MBA program and have really enjoyed it thus far. The program is pretty intensive... 20+ hours of school work per week, including posts, projects, assignments, papers, and case studies... but certainly well worth it. The online platform is extremely easy to maneuver and the professor's are pretty knowledgeable. The learning environment does require discipline and self-accountability, but hey, so does being a business leader, right? Kaplan gets 5 stars in my book! Read Full Review
I have no problems with my advisor. He is wonderful! The tuition is a little steep, but I could go to the University of MS and pay 2k less and still have to pay for gas to commute, take off of work, plus BUY my books. The tuition is not all that bad when you really look at it. As far as the finance dept. They are probably work study students. And none of them work from the same office. You just really have to stay on top of your stuff and catch it before it catches you! I'm really hoping for good things with this school. I've read similar stories about U... Read Full Review
I have both really good and really bad things to say about this school. I will talk about the bad first. I was in school for 18 months and had NO worries about anything. Classes were going well and my advisor was great. All of a sudden they decided that you would just call in and talk to whoever answered the phone, instead of your actual advisor. That was problem #1. I wanted to do a medical twist on accounting, i.e., take medical terminology and other courses because I wanted to work in a clinic or hospital... Read Full Review
I'm finishing up my associates degree in accounting at Kaplan, and I've had nothing but positive experiences. I generally attend 2 on campus courses and 1 online course each semester. I like both types of classes, but I do feel I get more out of meeting in person for class. All of my teachers have been great, not like the tenured ones I had at the state university who didn't care at all about students. My teachers went above and beyond for all their students. Academic advisors are easy to find and I've never had to make an appointment ahead of time, I just walk in. Financial aid has also been fine... Read Full Review
Absolutely great. I could not have completed a brick and mortar school with my job and family, but wanted to go on to a quality part time law school after my BS degree. From most of the reviews, you would think the degree would be useless, well I can tell you firsthand they are flat wrong or lying. Marquette accepted my within a week of submitting my application and I am still waiting to hear back from UW Madison. Both are top 100 schools and did not think twice when I asked them about a Kaplan BS. As long as it is accredited, which Kaplan is, the schools both said I would be fine... Read Full Review
Kaplan, so far, has been an overwhelmingly positive experience for me. I use military Tuition Assistance and my GI Bill, and there have been no problems with financial aid thus far. The courses are interesting, and the website is easy to navigate and use. Except for occasional temporary problems (like now, they are updating the website and there are some problems), everything is run smoothly and professionally. Read Full Review
I just graduated with my Bachelors Degree in Business Management from Kaplan University. I attended this school for four years. My education was decent and the teachers and classmates were excellent. I enjoyed that the Profs had real-life experience that they drew from and many truly wanted students to succeed and be educated. Hats off to them for their excellent work! The problem in Kaplan’s accounting practices and financial aid administration…or lack there of as the case may be. I truly believe this organization to be FRAUDULENT in their accounting roles when it comes to handling student tuition... Read Full Review
My experience with Kaplan University for the last year as been nothing but pleasant. The faculty are knowledge, provide guidance have helped me accomplish a life long dream of a masters in education. Read Full Review
I am in my second year at Kaplan University. Overall, it was a good experience. Most of my instructors were good at explaining the material and interacting with the students. I did have a few issues though, financial aid being one of them. I was told that I owed $1200 because my financial aid and pell grant did not cover the entire cost of the school year. I was sent an e-mail telling me this in late December, though the bill states that the money was due on 12/1... Read Full Review
I have been attending Kaplan for the last 2 1/2 years and will be graduating in April (2011) with a B.S. in Psy. I have read all the reviews on this message board and despite the good experience I had some of the complaints on this site are valid. Financial aid was a headache for the majority of my stay at Kaplan, but they have made some vast improvements. Do not discount them for that because they are not the only school who has issues with their financial aid department. My husband goes to a "traditional" college and has issues with his financial aid department as well... Read Full Review
Out of all the time that I have been at Kaplan University, I cannot complain about anything. The lesson were for the most part, very educational and the fellow classmate were very friendly were a great help. The professors were always there when you needed a question answered. I can say that I only had one bad professor out of all the ones I have since I started. I have never had a problem with any of my counselor and never had any problem with the FA office. I would recommend this school to anyone that wants to further their education and strive for a better life. I am going to graduate in Feb... Read Full Review
I had a very enjoyable experience at Kaplan. I was a little skeptical after reading, a lot of negative reviews. But once enrolled I received prompt attention from my 1st term advisors, and from financial aid. Kaplan has a whole area devoted to the needs of its military students and I had no issues with Financial Aid. One area is that is stressed at Kaplan University is to take time and familiarize yourself with the online virtual tour, especially your financial aid area. The tuition was discounted for me and my books were free. Online seminars one night a week and a very informative personalize web page. Great instructors... Read Full Review
I am almost in my senior year at Kaplan University, and i assure you that it is a nice regionally accredited online college. the Professors are well educated, and they give very informative live discussions and seminars. My degree is in Nutrition Science, and there are many alternative routes to seeking certification as a nutritionist, certified health educator, certified dietary manager, and even a registered dietitian once someone graduates from Kaplan University. I have just been accepted into North Eastern University's Master of applied Nutrition a few days ago... Read Full Review
Great school...was on cloud nine until I started reading all of the bad reviews...I am at the end of my second year-lost term count a long time ago!! lol- and so far have had no problems, however my EFC was 0...I am full financial aid with payback after graduation...will make sure that everything is right though before I pay back a penny!! lol... TREACHERS have been great for the most part, WORK doable, some too easy some quite challenging, SITE AND CLASSROOM great!! BOOKS-great, some a little dry but they get the job done... just ready to graduate and get my diploma!! Read Full Review
The education was very good, very professional with online professors that were clearly outstanding in their field. However, I have since enrolled in another online school for the graduate program. I have been trying to obtain my transcripts from Kaplan for nearly THREE MONTHS. I have spoken to the registrar's office, the business office and advisor upon advisor - with no solution. My current University is now threatening to drop me because I cannot get my transcripts from Kaplan. If you choose Kaplan, be assured the education will be good, but your dealings with the business side of the school will be a horrendous nightmare. Read Full Review
I just graduated with my Masters with a 4.0 GPA. It was tough with two kids under five and a full-time teaching job, but it was well worth it. I was never locked out of classes, and I got timely responses to my questions. My academic advisor, financial aid officer, and admissions councilor called me regularly when I first started just to check on me, and were always very supportive. I did once receive a request for some financial aid form last minute, but I just printed, scanned, signed and emailed it back without issue. I am very pleased with the education I earned and proud of how well I did... Read Full Review
I have almost completed my associates degree through Kaplan. Up until now, everything has been great. The education is at par or better then other colleges and universities. The biggest issue I have is the financial aid department. Now that they taken away individual advisers for students it is like pulling teeth to talk to someone and even then they can't seem to figure out a student's account. I decided to actually sit on hold one day just to see how long it would be before I could actually talk to a person.....1 hour and 10 minutes. Have been waiting 6 days now for a return email from the same department as well... Read Full Review
Nothing bad to say about Kaplan. Based on some of the reviews I've read I think some people expect an easier ride or something. I don't know what kind of challenge people are expecting, but it's college, not high school. I've had no issues with my financial aide, my student advisor has been the same for over two years, my teachers have all been attentive and knowledgeable, my books are always a recent if not brand new edition, and they are delivered on time. I feel like they do everything they can to help me succeed. The format may not be for everyone... Read Full Review
When I first did my FAFSA I was told I would not have to pay anything for my first year. Well at the end of the year they told me I owed $190.00 while that might not seem like a lot to most it is to me. It has been a fighting battle with the financial aid department. I just finished my first year and all year long they have been messing up my financial aid. The review department keeps sending me e-mail's and even blocking me from class because they say the need my tax return. I filled a joint tax return with my husband... Read Full Review
I have been attending Kaplan University Distance Learning for about one year. After I sent an info request to a Veteran's specialist (I was in the U.S. Navy for 5 years prior) I got a phone call right away and this person went out of their way to explain the entire program to me. So with a 34% discount and free books, which made it the same cost as the local community college, I signed up. The registration went great, and if either my financial or main advisor are busy, there is always someone else to answer my questions via the phone (or they respond by e-mail.) The learning experience has been great... Read Full Review
My GI Bill was about to expire and as my current job looked questionable, I decided to try to complete an online education using my VA GI Bill benefits. VA only pays monthly based on information the school provides concerning your enrollment. If the semester ends in the middle of the month, but resumes that same month, you only get partial payment since you were not a "Full Time" student. This means you will not get paid enough to cover Kaplan's fees. I am not financially secure enough to pay for classes without the payment from the VA... Read Full Review
Hay Braniacs, I attend kaplan UNiversity as well as went to other schools. If you drop a class in the middle of a semester or term, no matter where you go they will charge you for the classes. Financial will not cover it. Kaplan is a great school and have been around for a long time. Sorry, you didn't realize that if you fail or drop classes, it won't be covered. I am having a great experience here and love all of my advisors and professors. If you're not disciplined enough to get the process moving, then try a community college, again...don't drop your classes, they will send you to collections too. Read Full Review
I started Kaplan in January 2009. My academic advisor is still my advisor to this day. She made sure all of my paperwork was in order. She calls all of the time to see how I am doing and if I have any problems or concerns. Most of the time I miss the call because I work alot, but she always leave a message with her number. I wonder what school all of these other people are talking about. I'm assuming these are all undergraduate or certificate degree students. You have to realize that Kaplan bought out other schools that were on the verge of failing. They just changed names and were jacked up before Kaplan bought them out... Read Full Review
Read about my experience first, and if you decide to enroll, my best advise is for you to watch your ledger card very carefully! After earning my Associate's degree, I decided to return to school to finish my Bachelor's degree. I decided to go to Kaplan for two reasons: I received an ad promising to give me $1,000 and waive the technology fees, and my employer has a partnership that provides a 12.5% discount off of tuition. With an anticipated bill of $30,000, the 12.5% discount made a big difference, especially since books are included... Read Full Review
Kaplan is an excellent school, the only problem I had was with the business office. I shouldn't have to call to receive my refund when classes are over, and some of the financial aid advisors don't know what they are doing. Everything else is great. Read Full Review
I don't understand all the negative reviews regarding Kaplan University. I had a great experience at this school. The teachers were great, my financial advisor was great and my student advisor was fantastic. What I like about Kaplan is that they worked me, and worked me hard. When I look back, I actually enjoyed it. When I finished my B.S. degree, I didn't know what to do afterwards. Now I am looking into going back, however, the cost is a bit much. If I could rate Kaplan it would be a 4. Read Full Review
I have an A.A.S. in Paralegal Studies from Kaplan University and I am currently working on obtaining my B.S. in Legal Studies from Kaplan. Kaplan University does an excellent job of providing students with a quality education. All of the professors in my law-related classes have been experienced attorneys and I have learned a lot from them. Kaplan has also provided me an opportunity to network with other individuals in the legal field, allowing me to expand my list of contacts in the legal field. Overall, Kaplan University has helped me to greatly improve my understanding of the principles of law and of the judicial... Read Full Review
No one in the financial aid office as well as the business offices are on the same page everyone. They're so scatter-brained. Then when you try to reach the Business office manager they don't return your calls. Great school, but the financial aid and business offices are a bit difficult. Read Full Review
I have just started the enrollment process at Kaplan. So far I have to say it has been a good experience. One thing that I can say is that Kaplan might not be for everyone. Its up to the person in school to determine if this school is suitable for them. I believe you have to give the school the chance to help you receive a degree. For those who have had bad experiences I feel for you and I hope you get your issues resolved. I just hope in the future I don't have to deal with any of these unfortunate situations. I have been enrolled at Kaplan since September of 2008, and I have enjoyed my educational experience. I am in the military and I can honestly say that they have worked with me in every issue I had thus far. My first term, the TA form was not filed properly so I ended up with a balance on my account. When I called and talked to the military financial aid office, they gave me ample time to clear the situation and even let me take more classes. My TA pays for everything and I have no out of pocket expenses. I would recommend Kaplan to anyone in the military. It tailors to your schedule. Don't let disgruntle people sway you... This is a really great school. I enrolled in late January 2008 and I can say that this is a really great school. The admissions advisor bent over backwards to get me in or I would have had to wait until the following enrollment time. I enrolled on the last day before classes started. The only thing admissions messed up on was the fact that I was a Veteran and should get the reduced rate. After being in this school for almost two full years no breaks, I can say I am having a great experience. The financial aid department is lacking a bit. One of my advisors did not answer his phone and his e-mail box was full... Read Full Review
