Bellevue University Reviews
View All Reviews Write a ReviewI found the MPA program very challenging. As a seasoned public adminsitrator I found the curriculum extremely applicable to the the workplace. The information was current and the instructors were all professionals who maintained high standards. I did the research and compared the curriculum to many residential programs and found it to be comparable. Read Full Review
Bellevue was such a good place for me at the time I attended and I'm very happy that I made the choice to go there. Bellevue helped me get my degree, but it was not easy like some have said on the other reviews. Every school or college has its strengths and weakeness, and every part is not usually all the way good or all the way bad. What you put in, is what you get out of it. And that goes for any school and institution. Writing the major on the diploma is not what defines you, it is what you have learned while you were in school is what you have to sell to the employer... Read Full Review
I figure, you get out of any experience what you bring to it. And, I feel that Bellevue was a great place for me-- a self-learner, who was forced to drop out of Ohio State due to extreme financial hardship and work full time--to earn a BS in Business, quickly and cheaply. I especially liked the cohort approach. No choices. Take these recommended classes lock-step. Complete your capstone. Done. My prior 2-years of college taught me how to learn. It instilled in me a voracious appetite for learning. And I taught myself a lot in the intervening years. Here is a partial list: On the Sciences side..... Read Full Review
I grew up in Bellevue, and the learning center at the University is dedicated to my uncle. I always wanted to go to school there, and did go in person back in 1981. I dropped out to pursue a career in rock and roll, and while it was fun, I always knew I would someday go back to school. I live in Austin, TX now and my dreams of rock and roll stardom are in the distant past. Now that I am all grown up with 4 grandchildren, I decided that now is the time to go back to school. I was so excited to discover Bellevue has distance learning! So far, it's been great. Very challenging, but yet possible. I'm in my third semester seeking a B.A... Read Full Review
Academic assessment: Overall, Bellevue provided a decent online solution to furthering my career goals (math/stats, computer science, information assurance (IA)), though interaction could sometimes be a bit sparse - depended on the professor. I had seven different professors in this 12-course (36-hr) program, and one of them worked with John McCumber himself in 1993 when the original IA model for information systems was developed. General level of knowledge is above average, though the level of homework expected from a master's program is below average - this could carry implications of lesser knowledge obtained... Whoever the person was who said that this school is just a diploma mill and all classes are taught by the same professor, must have only taken one class. I've completed my MBA. I had the same professor only once, so in 12 classes, I've had 11 different professors. Also, my Operations management mid term took me 14 hours to complete and my final took my 20 hours. Not quite diploma mill type work is it??? Bellevue is a good school and I highly recommend it. I've never had any issues with billing and I always enrolled in the payment plans. Read Full Review
Some have commented on having had only one professor teach his or her program. This was never the case in my experience. While distance learning brings with it the use of adjuncts, I can honestly say that I did not detect any deficiencies in my professors' capabilities to warrant any concern or grievance. I worked my butt off and had no expectations of being "spoon fed." If you think an online degree is a snap, then think again. You must be disciplined and confident. You must also be willing to sacrifice a bit of your personal and family time in order to get through and achieve high scores... Read Full Review
Like anything in life you get out what you put in. My advice to anyone who is going to take classes at this school is to be prepared to put in a lot of hours studying. These classes requires the student to be very discipline you must meet all of you deadlines in order to pass your classes. The class format allows you to share your experiences with the rest of the class. This allows everyone to learn from each other not only the books. The one negative experience I had was with the Finance department. Even though all my fees had been paid they kept billing me for classes that had been paid months prior... Read Full Review
I am currently enrolled and just like any other university out there Bellevue offers challenging work and professors have great knowledge. Those who say it is a diploma mill are full of it, personally how can you base these claims of of one class. Love the school and am proud to be apart of it. Read Full Review
For anyone who says this is a "degree mill", I strongly disagree. I never put less than 10hrs a week into school, and often account for more than 20hrs dedicated to the classes. I am 2/3 complete with the major classes and work very hard to keep my grades up. So far I have not received anything lower than an A-, but I fear my first B is coming up in one of my current classes because I haven't had the time to keep up with the reading and occasionally it shows in my completed assignments. If you work a full time job (like I do) and don't have time for an in-class education, Bellevue is a good solution. Read Full Review
I am actually graduating Bachelor Degree in Human Services, which I believe, is no longer offered at BU. Bellevue University is a fantastic college for working adults whom are focused. The accelerated classes are fast and as soon as one semester ends, another begins. The down side is the high cost but that is the price you pay completing your degree sooner. I felt challenged in my classes and worked hard for the grades I received. I have read many of the other reviews on the internet and I just hope that when I do graduate next semester it does not take 3 months for the degree to arrive... Read Full Review
I currently work in Law Enforcement and just graduated from Bellevue in March 2010. Attending Bellevue University was the best decision and investment I have made in my life. As for the comments that Bellevue is a diploma mill I can tell you that it is not. Bellevue is accredited by the same accrediting body "The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (NCACS)" that accredits schools like the University of Notre Dame. The coursework was not easy and I can attest to the fact that you do not just receive an"A"... Read Full Review
I am a retired U.S. Air Force Reserve Law Enforcement Specialist and an 18 year U.S. Federal Law Enforcement agent. For more than 20 years, I have attended numerous universities and completed a variety of law enforcement academies and courses. I attended Bellevue University and completed both a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice Administration and a Master of Science in Security Management. The course instructors possess detailed knowledge of the subject matter and had relevant field experience. The cohorts were very interactive and cohesive and the assignments were educational and challenging... Read Full Review
Outstanding in almost every way. I am in the field, and also planning on continuing on through a PhD. I am getting the tools I need to continue upward and onwards. Not an easy undertaking. You get out what you put in. If you are looking to just get a Diploma, go elsewhere. If you want to work hard, receive excellent information, and further your education, this is the place for you. Not recommended for young adults with organizational skill-time issues. If you work hard at this school, you will do well. By no means a "Diploma Mill". If you are looking for that, go elsewhere. This takes a lot of effort and work. Read Full Review
I was disappointed after enrolling and graduating from BU's online program. My disappointment came from a variety of concerns that I thought were of a valid nature. I will share them, not to be negative, but to allow others to make an informed decision about BU. To begin with, I did not feel challenged; I received A's in all my classes with little effort on my part. Next, my professor was the same person for all my classes with the exception of the Kirkpatrick series. In addition, I felt the instructor lacked work experience in the subject area and was instructing based upon text book knowledge only. Then there were diploma issues... Read Full Review
This school is a substandard diploma mill. Please do your research and don't waste your time. What ever degree program you decide to enroll in you will have the exact SAME Professor for the entire duration obtaining your degree. The school may be accredited but if the federal government knew what they were doing they would snatch the accreditation from the school. You finish quickly but you don't retain much information. I was very disappointed and would not recommend for a ANYONE Don't waste your time it's horrible!!! Read Full Review
