Ashford University - Quality instruction that's user-friendly

I am on my 5th course with Ashford University and I have very few complaints. My courses are challenging and interesting and taught by qualified folks who know their stuff. Financial aid funding happens for me the way it is supposed to, though I have had to wait a few days for a reply to an email or voicemail from my FA advisor a couple of times. My new advisor takes an average of 2 days to get back to me, but I am sure I am sharing him with a zillion other students, so I understand. If you are a high maintenance type, or are just impatient by nature, this will not work for you... Read Full Review

Ashford University - Excellent University

I graduate this year, from Ashford. So far, I have had an excellent experience. Helpful academic advisor, quick response from financial aide advisor and positive interactions with instructors. I find the course materials relevant and information I apply to my current management position. I also enjoy the excellerated 5 week courses. Read Full Review

Ashford University - Challenging and Insightful

I attended my BA at Upper Iowa and have been in my MBA with and am to graduate in June 2012. College has come easy to me my entire career. Ashford professors expect the best of me. When I slack, they are quick to be on me. My advisor follows up any time I slack on getting into class. Overall, the Masters program is definitely no degree mill. The knowledge I have gained has been tremendous. I am currently a Regional CEO for a national Financial Firm. Read Full Review

Ashford University - Overall Very Good

Overall pretty good! Exactly what I expected from an on-line university of this size. The classes are of similiar structure every time and the grading and expectations are consistent. Some professors grade very slowly which can be hard since students are not there to ask in person to ensure that they are on the right path with their assigments. Schedules are flexible and classes are offered frequently so you can drop within a certain period of time and attempt the same course with a different professor if you don't vibe with the first one. Overall very good and affordable. Read Full Review

Ashford University - worth it

It was great experience studying at WGU. There is nothing negative which I found in my 20 months study. First, we need to understand the process, until then it is very confusing, once that is done, it is cool. You will gain lot of knowledge, better than many tier one school, this I compare my knowledge to my friends who got their education from good schools, paying two or three times more fee. Value of the certificate in the corporate world is not known as of now, because I am still working for the same company. So, good luck for who are studying and wants to study at WGU. Ashford University - Amazing school

I am doing a double major and double minor at AU, and I have to say this college is amazing. The clases are challenging, the instructors really know their stuff (although they can be slow to grade work sometimes), the advisors are awesome (especially my advisors Tess Paredes, David Usher, and Kristen Williams). I've never had a single issue with financial aid or my schedule. I am really loving my time here, and the online format and 5 week classes really make getting my degree an attainable goal. Thanks Ashford!! :) Read Full Review

Ashford University - unknown facts about ashford

The honest truth is Ashford University can be a good school if you are attending it for the right reasons. As an ex-employee and student at Ashford I can assure you that the main reason why the school gets no respect is because the quality of students being enrolled. Almost 80% of the students attending Ashford are not concerned with earning there degree but are mainly focused on receiving the financial aid money and running. Let's be honest most of the people that complain have probably only completed 3 classes at the most... Read Full Review

Ashford University - Grad and Happy

I am a recent Ashford University grad, with degrees in Sociology and Social Science/History. I graduated with a 3.6 in both my majors, but I was also extremely proactive I started looking for graduate schools while in my second year as well as looking for employment opportunities. I was hired at my current position as Asst. Behavioral Analyst prior to graduation and now my employer is offering tuition for me to complete my Master’s degree... Read Full Review

Ashford University - Great School

My experience at Ashford was somewhat challenging at times but very helpful in that I apply the knowledge I obtained daily. As long as you are disciplined, the online program is very beneficial to working adults. Since receiving my MBA, I have transitioned into a new job role and have far more career mobility as a result. The counselors were honest and very helpful, both academic and financial. I believe this school is a hidden gem and is not given the proper recognition attributed to higher education institutions; I obtained my Bachelor's degree from a state university, and found the experience at Ashford to be much better. Ashford University - Great classes, horrible admin office

I am currently in my second year at Ashford University. I love the program, the curriculum, and most of the instructors. However, the school administration is absolutely terrible. When I was pregnant, I went into early labor and applied for a leave of absence five different times. I was given a different reason why the application was denied each time. When I spoke with my advisor about it, I was told that leave was really meant for 'a death in the family or something like that'. I have had four different financial aid advisors... Read Full Review

Ashford University - Absolutely LOVED Ashford!!

I proudly completed my double major degree at Ashford in Nov. 2010. I had a great experience! Yes, with anything in life whether it's school, job, spouse, children, etc., I had a few bumps; I had an instructor whom I fought all the way through class (and WON), I had financial advisor who would NEVER return my calls, but I turned that lemon into lemonade! And I had classmates that were arrogant, ignorant, and downright racist, but what do you do? You keep your eyes on YOUR prize and kep stepping... Read Full Review

Ashford University - Great School

I have been attending Ashford since last year. I have not had any problems at all. My Academic Advisor (Rachel Hintz) and my Financial Advisor (Terra Straight) are both great! They always return my calls and e-mails on time. Ashford is a very good school overall. I have read reviews that stated Ashford is expensive. But if you do your homework on the cost of other schools/degrees, Ashford is more reasonable than the others. Read Full Review

Ashford University - Everything you want to get out of it!

I graduate in July 2011, and couldn't be happier with my experience. It's seems that most complaints are based on people not being happy with advisors. We are all adults, and shouldn't need someone holding our hands through our educational process. That being said I can't complain my advisors have been perfect! Adam Bennett is my academic advisor, and if I have a question he always calls me that day! Jaye Wheeler is my financial advisor, and she has also always called back if I have a problem, and taken the time to explain any issue I have... Read Full Review

Ashford University - Overall Good Education

I graduate in April 2012. I truly enjoy Ashford. The posts that I see about materials being a rip off, well I have attended two other schools, and Ashford texts were no different than the others. Sure Ashford has a few Ashford Edition texts but they are compilations of books that are extremely useful to the courses. You can find many of Ashford's text on Amazon or even Ebay if you look. As far as financial aid concerns, that is EVERY school, if you do not stay on top of it, it will come back to bite you anywhere. I have never had a problem at Ashford in regards to financial concerns... Read Full Review

Ashford University - Current Saint

I would have to say that I agree with a lot of the comments posted here, but the thing is if you aren't able to attend a traditional University, Ashford really is a great alternative. The main thing that you need to do is find a couple of people that really do care about your education and your goals. Like all organizations there will be a few bad apples, but I've been fortunate enough to stumble into a few really great people at Ashford who have helped me immensely. I was also found that the tutorials at Student Portal Buddy have been a great help as well. Read Full Review

Ashford University - Think Twice

Ashford University is fine as long as you don't have any problems. I was bounced from one financial services advisor to another. During the 7 classes I took at this school I had approximately 7 financial advisors. I complained about not having consistency and continuity but this did not seem to matter because they still changed my advisors frequently. Academically I did not learn much of anything; I breezed through these classes without cracking my book most of the time. I was on the Deans List with a 4... Read Full Review

Ashford University - It's a good school

I attended Ashford University (online) for 2 1/2 years. Overall, my experience was good. I recently graduated from the School of Business and Professional Studies, with a B.A. in Organizational Management. AU's strong point is professors with real-world experience. I've heard some complaint about AU online. I was unhappy with the way they handle my financial aid, but everything else was wonderful. Highly recommended! Read Full Review

Ashford University - Better than most Internet schools

I am currently in my 3rd year at Ashford and am earning a B.A. in psychology. I completed my first year at Central Florida Community College. Between the two schools, the academic standards and curriculum levels have been equivalent. Ashford's course load is heavier since the module-like format requires more writing and research. That’s one of the trade offs when you do not commute. Alleging that Ashford’s accredited classes are below college level standards is an underhanded accusation. Since each class is rigidly structured, this college’s learning style proves to be too monotonous for some... Read Full Review

Ashford University - I could NOT be happier

I have almost all positive experiences with Ashford. My tuition being held for my classes so I do not overlap or end up having to pay for a class after I spend the money, is a great system. If there is any left over, I buy my books and then the rest goes into a fund for when I start to pay back my loans.

Ashford is a unique school and I think the ease of use in their online setting is absolutely fantastic. I would recommend this school to anyone and I HAVE! Read Full Review

Ashford University - Good, but TOO easy

I think Ashford University is a good school, but it is WAY too easy. I have been attending for almost a year and I have received an A in every course. I will be honest and say that I have not turned in A quality work. Other than that, I think that it's a great school. My enrollment advisor (Ralph Bane) was horrible but my academic advisor (Tami March) is awesome. She has been able to help me every time I have an issue. I am in the military so my tuition is free and so are my books. I think the online website is well designed and some of the instructors are very knowledgeable. Read Full Review

Ashford University - Stop Complaining

Ashford seems to provide a good learning experience. I have been in for over 2 years now. I would however like to say to everyone completing these courses that these schools need to make a profit to stay open and the fact that people are complaining as if they should be give special treatment is crazy. One person commented on how bad Argosy University is but the true question should be about the education and while financial aid and the likes are an aspect of the process, the school is not in control of the financial aid process... Ashford University - Seriously Research Ashford and Consider This...

Strengths: All of the teachers followed the guidelines and met their minimum requirements of their positions. Few went above and beyond their job scope. Weakness: Financial aid (ill) advisors do not know or understand they need to communicate with us (students) to satisfy the 'verification process'. Between the two (ill) advisors I had the displeasure of dealing with, the school and students would be better off if they closed this department. No supervisors call back from this department and each person you contact has different information, most of which is incorrect... Read Full Review

Ashford University - Fantastic School

I am in my twenty-fourth course at Ashford and it has been a fantastic experience. Of course school is what you make of it, so those saying that you can skate through it are probably right - but they have to walk away knowing that their degree is a sham.

I put full effort into my studies and feel like I am getting a very high quality education. I graduate in six months and will be proud to be an Ashford alum. Read Full Review

Ashford University - It's been good so far

I have been attending Ashford since Sept of 08. I had an Associate's degree from a community college and they took ALL of my credits, and they also let me keep getting general education credits from the community college which saved me a lot of money. I have 3 more classes to go, including the class I am in now. As far as faculty goes, I like most of my professors as a rule. I think 4 of them were substandard and were there as facilitators, but I had that at the community college also... Read Full Review

Ashford University - Disappointing

I think I leapt before I looked. Ashford was the first online school to get through to me when I sent a general inquiry out into cyberspace. I was excited at the prospect and jumped on it. Three shoddy academic advisors later and a string of unfortunate personal incidents, I am no longer enrolled there - and not by my doing. The coursework was certainly doable, but they waste a lot of time in the beginning with lessons on Adult Learning and Life Launch - money I would have rather spent on texts that would earn me transferable credits... Ashford University - Could be better, could be worse

I'm a couple of classes away from my BA degree. I find the major flaw with this school's education to be that they have students rely almost entirely on the book they've selected to teach the students. The instructors are really just there to grade your assignments and answer any questions. Another problem is that the teachers are inconsistent in adhering to the school's writing guide. I only had one negative experience with an instructor, really though. Thankfully I don't think he teaches there anymore. A non-education issue I had was with the enrollment people and my academic advisor... Read Full Review

Ashford University - Disappointed with the level of education

I found that the classes were extremely easy to get through. It really takes no effort at all to get a 4.0 from this school. The professors seem well educated, but they do not have to do much for their job. The student I've found aren't the greatest as far as writing goes. Sometimes the students' writing on the message boards was deplorable. I felt the level of education I received was worse than the junior college classes that I've taken and extremely sub-standard compared to the Cal State I transferred from. The classes are expensive and you don't learn too much... Read Full Review

Ashford University - Great Academics, But Difficult Financial Aid

The standard classroom set up and questions were excellent to superb. The 8-12 page "Reflection Papers," which are research papers required to be written in APA format were of equal challenge to any undergraduate paper in a top tier University anywhere, period. Most of the professors were involved and gave excellent advice, but some did not participate much at all. The open book "objective assessments," were easy. Some professors added extra requirements to the discussion posts in the classroom discussion and research papers, while some did not... Read Full Review

Ashford University - Go Saints!

I'm in my 15th course at Ashford--I graduate 09/11. Aside from having to write 8-12 page research/reflective papers every 5 weeks, my experience has been great. The writing assignments are extremely time consuming. It seems like I have not had a break from writing and researching for ages....and I just cannot wait until I graduate. I am very pleased with the knowledge and education I have received thus far....but I would take a final exam any day over writing papers for every course... Read Full Review

Ashford University - Going Downhill

They were great when I started in 2006, but now tuition is almost $1100 a class and the teachers take less interest in their students. You never know when financial aid is going to get around to sending you the disbursement needed to help pay for books (they say 7 or 14 weeks, then add 2 to process, and then another 4 if a grade isn't posted and another week to process that) so I am paying high interest on loans that I am not seeing the money!
