Go"Tougher than a Traditional School!"
I transferred to Walden University about halfway through my PhD program from a traditional brick-and-mortar university. It's easy to physically sit in a classroom, listen to a lecture, and minimally participate. But you can't do that at Walden -- you HAVE to participate, both in answering questions posed by the professor and in responding to comments made by other students. You can't get away with doing the minimum, which is what makes this program much more rigorous than a brick-and-mortar program. The one drawback is that you're basically on your own as you write your dissertation. You HAVE to be self-motivated. If you're not, you'll end up ABD. I'm the type that needs outside accountability, and I could have used a once-a-week face-to-face dissertation meeting (common at traditional universities) to keep me on track. However, it taught me to dig down deep, set goals, and rely on myself to get my dissertation done. I learned self motivation from the process, which will serve me well in the future. I'm very pleased with the education I received from Walden!
