"A Different Experience From the Negative Reports"
I just completed the MS Special Education. I am working on proceeding to a doctoral. Walden has exceeded the publicized expectation for online/distance education. I did a bit of research before going in which was mainly negative. For my busy school schedule, an online university like Walden is just about a university experience most welcome for our times. The courses are so practical. The classroom experiences so direct, yet virtual; the only disadvantage being that you choose inputs you would want to respond to on the discussion boards and Student A may find herself stuck traditionally in a discourse triangle involving students B and C each week on topics. The study materials are of extreme value. The dvds and textbooks feature very important teachers in the field of inclusive education. The instructors are very powerful teachers, very proactive, very constructive though I must say I met one particularly difficult one. I found myself pumping in many, many hours, literally, I was on a virtual 'marriage leave' as my wife allowed me all the time to learn: better than leaving the family and moving to live on campus away from them, not seen, not working, no salary. It has impacted my classroom work with my students a lot. Walden is continually putting in improvements and needed changes. Overall, I do not regret my experience at Walden U; if this is what online education has for the world with Walden at 40 years, then the world of learning has got a lot to gain at 50 years onwards: a threat for traditional places of learning at that.
