A DECENT COLLEGE. Kaplan University

  • Comments and Experiences

I am in my second year at Kaplan University. Overall, it was a good experience. Most of my instructors were good at explaining the material and interacting with the students.

I did have a few issues though, financial aid being one of them. I was told that I owed $1200 because my financial aid and pell grant did not cover the entire cost of the school year. I was sent an e-mail telling me this in late December, though the bill states that the money was due on 12/1.

I was then blocked from logging into my classes because I hadn't payed the amount owed and I hadn't turned in the promissory note, which by the way, I was also told was due on 12/1 but I didn't receive the e-mail about it until several weeks later.

I was told that I could pay half of the $600 now and $600 in February. I was not told at the time was that I could be blocked again at any time until the balance was paid in full.

Every time I talk to someone in Financial aid or student accounts, I am given a slightly different answer concerning this situation. Furthermore, I had to fax and e-mail the promissory note 4 times over the course of a week before they finally said they received it.

The communication between departments and students at this school is extremely poor. This entire situation was extremely stressful and frustrating for me.

I would probably consider switching schools but I am doubtful that the credits earned will transfer.
