Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing's online Master of Science in Nursing: Nurse-Midwifery degree program has been created to be a flexible online self-directed, modular course of study for those individuals who are looking to become midwives over two to three years.

Creating a classroom from the community in which the student lives, this online master's degree in nursing: nurse-midwifery provides a place for students to work closely with the certified nurse-midwives (CNMs) in their community as they gain the knowledge and the skills needed for succeed.

The Midwifery Institute at Philadelphia University was founded in 1996 by a group of midwifery educators as the Institute of Midwifery, Women, and Health. The Founding Board of Directors all had extensive experience in midwifery practice and education. The Institute offers a 2-year full time option and a 3-year part time option.

Applicants to this program are required to:

  • Submit a graduate studies application and program supplemental application along with a non-refundable $35 application fee
  • Submit a professional resume or CV
  • Be a registered nurse currently licensed in the state in which you work and/or in the state you plan to do clinical or successfully complete the CM Pathway.
  • Hold a baccalaureate or higher degree in any discipline with a grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher
  • Provide evidence of successful completion of a three-credit statistics course
  • Have a written agreement for clinical site placement with a qualified midwifery preceptor
  • Own a computer, have Internet access, and have basic computer skills to support learning in our distance learning environment
  • Submit two letters of reference from professionals who can attest to your character and abilities
  • Submit official transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate courses
  • Submit a written essay according to program guidelines
  • Complete an interview with one of our faculty
  • Submit one of the following:
    • Official GRE Scores OR
    • Submit a writing sample following admission guidelines

    In addition, one year of work experience relevant to midwifery is strongly recommended. Qualified applicants will be granted a telephone interview by a Philadelphia University faculty member. The Admissions Committee also requires an interview conducted by your midwifery preceptor in reviewing your application for admission.

    Accreditation

    The M.S. in Midwifery, Post-Master's Certificate, and CM pathway courses are accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education. The most recent program accreditation runs from May, 2008 through June, 2015. Philadelphia University is regionally accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education.
