Online Law Masters Degree Programs

Advanced academic college education in law and legal studies.

A Masters degree in law is an advanced academic degree generally abbreviated as an LL.M. A traditional or online Masters degree in law is not to be confused with a Juris Doctor, which is a traditional law degree that typically leads to a career practicing law.

Most students who choose to earn a Masters in law degree are foreign legal graduates who require a background in US law, and who don’t plan to practice law in the United States. Other Masters degree programs in law are designed for US-based students who have already earned a Juris Doctor degree, and provide a background in a very specialized field of law such as tax law, elder law, or corporate law. Online Masters degree in law graduates are generally not permitted to sit for the bar. Some states only allow those with a J.D. degree to take the bar.
