A Masters degree in English can lead to a wide variety of careers. Many of those who earn a Masters in English go on to teach—either at the secondary or postsecondary level. In some states, a traditional or online Masters degree in English is required to work as an English teacher in public schools.

If you are interested in teaching at the undergraduate level, be aware that most colleges require a PhD in English for tenure-track positions. However, many community colleges hire those with a Masters degree for teaching positions. You can also qualify for some adjunct teaching positions with a Masters degree in English.
