PC Fundamentals With Microsoft Windows XP


PIN code provided for this course allows unlimited on-line access for 90 days. This course introduces students to the basics of personal computers. Students will learn what a computer is and how to identify and classify some basic components and peripherals.

Students will also receive instruction on how to turn on a computer and log on to Microsoft Windows XP. In addition, students will learn what Microsoft Windows XP is, how to use the mouse to access various essential screen elements, how to manipulate windows, what menus and toolbars are, and how to customize a Desktop with the use of backgrounds and screen savers. This course will also cover where to go for help with using Microsoft Windows XP, as well as how to safely turn off a computer. The material is presented through explanatory text, real-world scenarios, and interactive steps.


Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify and examine the basic parts of a PC
  • Safely turn on and turn off a computer
  • Customize the Windows XP Desktop
  • Understand operating system and application basics


Student performance is assessed by cumulative training time, number of lessons completed and, where tests are available, the percent correct. Many courses also have a pre- and post-test where the pre-test will automatically assign only the lessons needed to achieve course mastery.
