Description

Who is this course for?

This course is designed for people who seek entry-level operator's job in a process plant. There are hundreds of process plants in the United States. There are very few institutions in the country that provide training for entry-level workers for process plants.

Process plants are operated by highly skilled process operators. In process plants, usually there are three or four operator-position levels. This course is designed to prepare a person to apply for an entry-level job. Once a person is employed, he/she moves up the ladder by acquiring experience.

Nature of the Course

This course is designed to be user friendly. If you can use email, you should be able to take this course easily over the Internet. This is a totally web-based course. That means you can participate in the course at any time and from any location. You can also work at your own pace. You can plan your own work schedule - at any time - seven days a week, 24 hours a day.

It is an interactive course. Many modules contain graphical simulations and animations to enhance the learning process. The course delivers some fairly complex concepts in an easy to learn format. Since you are in total control of the course delivery, you can go over the course material a number of times to improve the learning process - this is a key advantage our courses have over the common classroom type learning methods. Many people do not learn in a classroom since the learning material presented only once - some people find it difficult to ask the instructor to go over the material one more time. In our experience an average student needs to be told three times before technical concepts sink in. This is very common and very normal. Unfortunately, it is difficult to accomplish this in a classroom setting. Not so with our courses - you learn at your own pace and you can go over the material many times.

Outcomes

This is a comprehensive course designed to provide necessary information on many subjects to entry-level workers. A list of modules is provided in this document. A review of the list will indicate the subjects covered in this course. Incidentally, each of the modules contains its own list of learning outcomes.

Assessment

Online tests are scored on a 0-100% scale. Cumulative score for all modules is used to determine the overall grade. Grade A: 90% or higher. Grade B: 85% to 89.9%. Grade C: 80% to 84.9%. 79.9% or lower: Fail. Pass mark for each of the individual modules is 80%.

Written tests are graded as pass or fail only. If you fail a written test - you are given an additional opportunity to re-do the test. Notice that you do not have this flexibility in normal classroom-type settings. We allow this because our goal is to create opportunities for students to learn, demonstrate their competence and succeed.
