Description

This online forensic science course has been created to provide students with the skills that are needed identify, collect and analyze evidence in order to capture criminal perpetrators.

While in this online forensic science course, students will learn the skills that are needed to move from crime scene to the laboratory to the courtroom.

This online course provides students will an opportunity to develop the in-depth understanding that is needed for:

• Analyzing hair, fiber, fingerprints, chemicals and blood stains
• Testing for drugs and alcohol
• Examining DNA samples
• Using specialized forensic equipment
• Reconstructing a crime scene
• Preparing a lab report for presentation in court

Outcomes

Individuals who complete this online forensic science course will have gained the skills that are needed for working in various areas of law enforcement, police agencies, private detective firms and attorney's offices, and will have gained the skills that are needed to:

• Collect, package, transport and document physical evidence from crime scenes
• Photograph the crime scene and surroundings
• Analyze fingerprints, blood, fibers, hair, documents and DNA evidence
• Identify firearm and tool mark impressions
• Present courtroom testimony
• Reconstruct crime scenes
• Show evidence to determine cause of death

Assessment

Students in this online Forensic Science program will be assessed through the use of open book, online exams.
