Introduction to Classical Music
Course Code: DED409
School: Distance-Education.org
Description
This class is designed for students who have little or no musical background but enjoy classical music and would like to further their enjoyment through an understanding of the basics of musical structure and historical context. By learning how to listen and understand the universal language of music students will be inspired to make classical music an important part of their life.
The class is divided into five weeks as outlined below. Although it is highly recommended that the student have access to a library of classical music tapes or CD`s, each week`s lesson will include listening examples (MIDI samples or links to Mp3 files).
In addition to "grading" and comments at the end of the session, I will be available for e-mail communication throughout the course for those students who may have questions or need additional help. Students will be notified of online Classical Music chat sessions as they are scheduled.
Outcomes
Upon completion of this course, students will have developed a basic understanding and appreciation for classical music. Ideally, they will find a composer, an instrument, or a style of music that they will truly enjoy and will go on to explore in greater depth.
Assessment
At the end of each week`s lesson there will be a brief assessment. Students will answer questions and apply each new concept to a listening example.
