Designed for the beginning herbalist, this course will explain the Chinese Five Seasons, their corresponding organs, food suggestions and exercises for health maintenance.

As you learn more about alternative health you will realize that there is more to good health than just taking herbs, vitamins, eating good food and exercising. There is a plan in nature that we must learn to follow - The Chinese call that plan the "Seasonal Approach to Health Maintenance". In this course you will examine the Chinese Five Seasons, their corresponding organs, food suggestions and exercises for health maintenance.

We will also study about the special concerns for men and women 40+ years of age. In this section you will learn which herbs and supplements work best for different hormonal/glandular deficiencies.

This course will help you to understand the basic principles of Seasonal Health Maintenance and how to choose which herbs you should use. I will also offer you links to items on the web that will add to your knowledge of Alternative Health options. Feel free to copy and print any of the charts used in this class for your personal use.


By performing satisfactorily (90% or better) on the final exam.


By the end of the course, students should possess the following knowledge and skills:

  • Be able to identify the Five Seasons and their corresponding.
  • Have a working knowledge of the specific organs in our Energy System and how the Five Energy Systems flow from organ to organ.
  • Have an understanding of how to change your diet and exercise for each season by following nature`s lead.
  • Understand Prevention of Disease vs. Reaction to Disease
  • Have a working knowledge of the special concerns of men and women as they age into their 40`s.
  • Have the ability to put together a Seasonal Herb Maintenance program.
  • Know which herbs and supplements have been used historically for the different body systems.

Karyl L. Sellinger has been in the herb business since 1992 and owned an Herb Shop in Kennesaw, GA for 8 years. Her shop offered herbs, vitamins, Chinese seasonal, homeopathic, aromatherapy oils and blends, Indian (ear) cones, books and more. She is a frequent speaker/author on herbs and has spoken/written for Kennestone Hospitals Huffer& Puffers outpatient group, and teaches iridology (reading the eye) to help her customers better understand their individual constitutions.
