Where Can I Study for an Online Degree in the UK?
One of the best things about online education is that it lets you get a degree from any university in any country, as long as there’s an online component—and you’re accepted.
There are many reasons why getting a degree from a UK university would help your career. This is particularly true if you’re planning to relocate to the UK at some point in the future—but don’t have the money or resources to relocate for school before you land a job in the country. If this is the case, you may be able to study online.
There are several schools in the United Kingdom that offer online programs. Here’s an overview of a few schools that offer a wide range of undergraduate, graduate, and certificate degree programs.
|
University of London
The University of London offers Bachelors, Masters and certificate programs designed for international as well as UK-based students. They let you take individual classes and groups of classes as well as enrolling in a wide range of online degree programs. They boast several well-known alumni including Nelson Mandela and Chinua Achebe. The college also has over 45,000 students in 180 countries, with exam centers all over the world—so you’re likely to be able to manage even hands-on components of classes in an area near you.
University of Derby
The University of Derby offers Bachelor’s and BSc degrees as well as online Masters programs in a variety of specialties. The university offers scheduled “open days” when you can talk to professors and former students online, ask questions about the university, and explore your options in further detail.
The Open University
The Open University was founded and is still funded by the British Government. It has an open entry policy—meaning anyone can sign up for classes, regardless of past academic history. While most of its students are located in the UK, it has over 25,000 students from hundreds of countries outside of the UK. It also has on-site courses and research facilities in the UK. The Open University offers both undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs.
University of Liverpool
The University of Liverpool offers Masters degree programs entirely online in medicine, law, information technology, and management. The medicine degree programs span Masters degrees in public health and clinical research management, while the law degrees include majors in international law with focuses on finance and business. The programs are offered in partnership with Laureate Online Education.
Kaplan University
Kaplan University is an American distance education school—but it offers classes in the UK through a partnership with the University of Essex. Their undergraduate and certificate degree programs include criminal justice, financial services, and business management.
The University of Herfordshire
The University of Herfordshire offers a Masters program in computer science, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or information systems for students who already have a qualifying Associate’s degree. They also offer individual course modules in computer network protocols and architectures, databases, and web services. In addition to online learning, they offer a blended approach with the option to learn at a study center in select areas.
The University of Oxford
One of the UK’s most prestigious schools, the University of Oxford does not offer full online degree programs. However, it does offer select online courses and course modules, including professional training for working students.
Aberdeen Business School
This school, located in Scotland, offers online MBA degrees to international and local students. Their MBA program is relatively prestigious; they’ve been listed in the Financial Times as one of the top 40 distance MBA degrees in the world since 2007, as well as in Business Week for the 2008-2009 rankings.
It’s never easy to choose the right college. With online learning making degree programs in other countries available no matter where you live, the choice has gotten harder. There are many ways to study online in America or anywhere in the world for a degree in the UK. Do some research into available online programs and schools, and you should be able to find a school that offers the right degree, price and schedule for your needs.
