Why does online colleges charge room and board fee?
I would like to know why is it that online college courses charge a room and board fee and a personal fee. I asked someone from the school that I am attending and was told that it is an indirect cost to me, but I got a loan and it looks like I am going to have to pay back $ 5,000 dollars plus.

After a bit of searching I was unable to find any universities that charge its online students fees for room and board. Since this situation seems to be somewhat of an isolated occurrence, I would try contacting the institution you attend again, and ask to speak with someone who works directly with the fees, such as the cashier or registrar. These individuals are typically the ones who have to work with students regarding money matters, and can have a large amount of insight regarding issues such as this.

It is common for schools to charge differing rates for on-campus and online students, but it is very uncommon for institutions to charge online students for staying at the university. That is part of the overall benefit of attending an online institution--not having to pay fees such as, athletics and room and board fees.
