If you want to become a teacher you will first need to complete a bachelor degree. Most students get a Bachelor of Arts degree to satisfy this requirement and then complete the necessary courses to obtain their certification. If you already have a bachelor degree you will need to complete additional certification courses to get your teaching certificate online. This can usually be done in 1-2 years depending on the subject you wish to teach. If you don't have a Bachelor of Arts degree, it will take about 4-5 years to complete it and the necessary certification courses. It might take less time depending on your course load. Many more online universities are offering teaching certifications these days, so you might check into some universities listed on this site. University of Phoenix Online for example offers a Bachelor of Science in Education/Elementary Education students can complete online or offline at one of their campus locations.
