What kind of courses for a vet assistant?
I want to get a job in a vet office with some kind of background in animal care. But I can not afford to enroll in a program right now and I am not sure if I really want to be a vet tech... What would you recommend/ This is a career change for me, as I already have a BS in Elem Ed.

As far as I know there are no free online Vet. Assistant courses, but your best bet, I think, in this case would be to do a lot of research through the web.

The Internet is an amazing thing that offers tons of free information.

Start looking for a number online Forums, Blogs, and websites that cover the various topics that are related to Vet. Assistance. This would be a great way to start for figuring out if this field would be something you would be interested in.

Then, if you deiced this is something that you are wanting to pursue, here is a link to a list of online Animal Care Courses that might be of some use.
