A political science degree would be a great place to start if you wanted to go the politician route. i know people that have even interned at the state capitol under a senator or representative while completing their political science degree. it's a great way to make contacts!

One of the trends in higher education over the last 20 years is what many call the "professionalization" of the undergraduate experience. That is, many students look at their degree simply as a means to an end -- students who study business as undergraduates typify this understandable attitude. But take a step back and you will see that the attainment of a Bachelor's degree in any field demonstrates an ability to commit to a 4-year program, the capacity to think about subjects and come up with well-reasoned thought in response, etc. Political science degrees in particular demonstrate a curiosity about how power is exercised in society. For this reason, it is a versatile degree about which you should feel confident talking with potential employers (in government, non-profit organizations, for-profit corporations, etc.). If you continue on to a Master's or Doctorate, there are other doors that may open to you. But they are by no means necessary; that is, with some searching, most political science graduates find interesting employment. Good luck.
