Is (Health and Social Care BTEC Introductory Diploma Level 2) an equivalent qualifications to the NVQ level 2 Health and Social Care???

With the little research that I have done on this subject it look to me that there is a difference. The NVQ is a more theoretical based education, where the BTEC is a more practical-based.
Also, from what I understanding employers tend to chose those individuals with a BTEC over those with a NVQ.
