Depending on the educational institution that you are considering taking the online course from, the process/platform for taking the online courses will vary.

What I would suggest you do is contact the the school who is offering the course you are considering taking to find out the specific details of their educational platform.

Also, many educational institution will offer a demo. These demos offer a small glimpse into the process of their online courses.
