First let me start of by saying congratulation on considering a PhD program, that is a very tough decision, but one that is worth the work. As for the number of credit hours/courses that it will take to complete a PhD program, it will all depend on the program. Every PhD program is different, depending on the school, the field of study, or and the student's area of focus.
Typically though, PhD programs take around 4 to 5 years, again depending on the type of program you will be attending.
The best thing you can do is research various types of programs that you are interested in, and contact the schools to find out what is the best program for you.
