The key is to ask the school you are transferring TO. They all have different policies, and in the end, it is their decision.

This is a really good question. I researched this a bit and to transfer credits from one online university to another depends a lot on the university you wish to attend. In most cases it is not easy to transfer credits from one online school to another. Each school will have its own unique requirements for accepting credits from another college. For the most part a lot of online instuitions will not accept all credits from other online universities as they would rather you complete the classes with them as its part of the full program.

However if you attended an offline campus-based university and have completed a good number of credits many online universities will accept some of those credits. Schools like Walden University, in order to complete Bachelor degree you need to transfer in outside credits from another university. Usually these are always from a campus based school.

Accreditation is the deciding factor for many credit transfers.

From the University of Phoenix website "University of Phoenix Online accepts transfer credits from regionally and nationally accredited institutions of higher learning, as long as they apply to your chosen degree program."

If the online university is regionally and/or nationally accredited its possible some of the credits will transfer but that is up to the discretion of the admissions counselors and the university on what will transfer and what will not.

Secondly, many online universities limit the number of credits that you can transfer in. This is completely a decision that is up to them and one you have little control over. You might just have to take several classes over again. On some cases, you can argue for certain credits to apply to your degree. This is highly encouraged because it usually means that you will not have to fork over extra money for classes your have already completed. Most people don't want to take the same class over. Its also good to ask why certain credits didn't transfer. There are good reasons many will not transfer as often times the class you took at another university is not the same as the one required to take at your new university.
