Student loan payments can be temporarily suspended by deferment. Deferment can be authorized for reasons such as economic hardship, unemployment, military deployment, enrollment in school, internship, national service, and similar reasons.

As far as getting a deferment while taking a non-accredited course, I would highly recommend that you talk to your lender. There are different types of loans that have different stipulations. To get the most accurate answer for your particular situation you should speak directly with your lender.
