Typically yes, but there is the Multistate Bar Examination (MBE) that if passed will allow you to practice in almost all jurisdiction in the US.

Would someone studying Communications, Sociology and Film be qualified to work in International Development? Would it be better for me to go a more traditional route by getting an education in International Studies instead? I have more interest in spending my fours years learning about sociology, communications and film while volunteering with NGOs in Canada. However, would this put me at a significant disadvantage intellectually and experience wise?
